It's definitely faster than Leopard. Only problem is that Plex doesn't work properly for me on Snow Leopard.

dont be in a rush to upgrade - there's still a few bugs crawling around in there.

If you are going to do it then clone your drive first so you can go back to 10.5 when you find that some of your favourite apps no longer work...

Yeah if you are with O2 wireless broadband then DON"T switch. I've upgraded and my airport disconnects maybe every 5 minutes, sometimes every 10 minutes if I'm lucky. It's just since I upgraded to Snow Leopard and I don't know how to do back to normal Leopard.

I've searched forums and quite a few people are having this problem and there seems no be no solution.

I have a white macbook - and foolishly upgraded without making a backup first. It's had an impact on performance alright - s l o w e d it down - just general sluggishness really so be advised. .. but a good price for those that want to jump in.

However. I too have O2 but had no network issues to speak on.

p.s. roll on the next upgrade - pull your finger out Apple!

Hmm that's strange, I assumed it was O2 because when I am on other wireless networks the airport doesn't disconnect.

are updates not free?

Updates are, but they released this as a new version of the operating system.

Its about 1000 times more likely to be an issue with your access point/airport, not o2. What you are saying is like saying "oh, my car keeps cutting out because there are some road works on the M25 - so don't use motorways if you have a Ford."

IE completely unrelated.

PS has anybody hackintoshed snow leopard yet?

I'm not saying it's O2s fault I'm saying Airport isn't working with O2. There's some sort of compatibility problem between the two. I've an error in console about it, saying disconnected due to interactivity.

Just a note for people thinking of buying for installing on atom based notebook. Don't upgrade past 10.6.1 as the next update 10.6.2 has no support for the Atom processor.

Apple say as you are only licensed to use it on apple based products the support is not needed. More the real reason, next year apples is expected to release a netbook which is expected to be ARM based.

I'm sure as we speak the hackintosh community are working at modifying the kernel to get round this as pissing of Mr Jobs seems to be everybody's favorite pastime at the moment.

You sure it didn't say "disconnected due to inactivity"? ie. you weren't using it so it switched it off.

07/11/2009 14:21:56 kernel AirPort: Link Down on en1. Reason 4 (Disassociated due to inactivity).

Thats the error. It happens when I am online browsing web pages, I'll go to another one and it says I'm not connected. When I view console error this is the one that's there. It happens when data is continually streaming too such as when I am using spotify or watching something on iPlayer.

**edit** Just realised I wrote interactivity for some reason...sorry!

I came across a similar issue (I work part time for my uni doing tech support) I sent it to the Mac specialist guy and it was a virus/trojan screwing with the airport settings.
